Compare flow efficiency across teams

Flow efficiency is now available as an aggregate in issue metrics and explore. Until now, you could only see it for individual work items. Now you can roll it up to compare how your teams perform across epics, stories, or tasks — and see how they measure against Swarmia’s industry benchmarks.

Flow efficiency compares an issue’s lifetime against its active days. In other words, it tells you how much of the time between starting and finishing a piece of work actually involves someone working on it. A high flow efficiency means your team can finish what it starts without being pulled away, making it a useful metric for improving focus. You generally want to aim high.

A low score is worth digging into. It can point to interrupted work, poorly defined features, or work that sits idle for stretches at a time. So if you suspect that some work tends to linger for months, flow efficiency is a good place to start.

To get started, find flow efficiency as an aggregate in issue metrics, or add it to a custom report in explore.
