See the cost of engineering work in investment balance and focus summary

Engineering effort has a price tag, and now you can see it in Swarmia — in real currency, so you can talk about investment in terms the rest of the business understands.

We’ve added cost to both the investment balance and the focus summary. It builds on the FTE-based effort model and combines the FTE months Swarmia already calculates with a yearly average cost you set for a full-time developer. Note that cost and the related settings are only available to admins.

To turn it on, go to your organization’s general settings and toggle cost on. From there, you can:

• Set the yearly average cost of a full-time developer. You can include the average salary plus any other costs you want to account for per developer.
• Choose whether to show figures in euros or dollars.

Swarmia uses the yearly average, along with FTE months, to calculate the cost of each work item.

Once you’ve set your developer cost, open focus summary or investment balance to see it in action.
