Segment your data by contributor attributes [beta]

You can now bring contributor metadata into Swarmia and use it as a filter across the app. Import job title, location, start date, employee ID, and anything else that helps you segment your data.

Once the data is in, contributor attributes work like any other filter. You can also add them as columns in Explore.

Segmenting gets more useful as your organization grows and the structure gets more complex. Instead of comparing teams only, you can look at metrics across groups of software engineers and answer questions like:

  • In which teams do junior engineers thrive?
  • Does geographical distance have an impact on effectiveness?

If you capitalize software development costs, you can also import an ID number for each contributor and use it to reconcile your capitalization reports with the numbers in your finance systems.

You’ll find a new contributor attributes tab in settings. From there, admins can:

  1. Define the attributes you want to import.
  2. Download a template with a row for each of your contributors and a column for each attribute.
  3. Fill in the file and upload it back to Swarmia.

After that, attributes can be used by users as filters anywhere in Swarmia, and as columns you can add in explore.

To get started, head to settings → contributor attributes.
